Our 'Sound of the Week' this week (and last week!) is the LONG 'o' sound!

What letters together make a long 'o' sound?
o-e as in rose
oa as in boat
ow as in snow
oe as in toe

And sometimes, all you need is the letter 'o'!

Last week we celebrated being at school for over 100 days! We brought things into school, or used equipment that we had at school, to show the number 100.

We have been working on making our writing more interesting for other people to read! We are putting in WOW words and adding details. 

Here are some examples:

Miss Simpkins' sentence 'I went on my bike down the road' got changed to...

'Me and my little sister rode on my bike. 'Clatter-clatter' down the street'

Emily's Holiday Writing!

Last Tuesday was an exciting day. We went into Wellington. Can you guess

how? We went by bus and train. Once we were at the train station we walked

to the cable car. We went on the cable car two times. We went to the cable car

museum at the top of the hill. I met somebody famous from the Red Rattlers

reading book. At the back of the book there was a man. He was on the cable car

driving it. After we meet daddy for lunch. We had Subway for lunch. I got to

choose the cookie. It was chocolate!

Next time I go to Wellington, I would like to go to Te Papa.

Our new SOUND OF THE WEEK for Week One is the 'short i' sound (like in 'pig', 'tin', or 'hill').

Awesome Disco Writing from Rimu Toru

Here are some excerpts from our awesome writing about the disco this morning. 

On Friday night my whole family went to the Papakowhai School disco in the hall. I got a lemonade ice block. I found Miss Simpkins to dance with. My favourite song was 'Happy'. I danced side to side. I was very tired.

On Friday night I went to the Papakowhai school disco. I went with my mum. ... I got some Sprite ans chips. They were salt and vinegar chips. After I finished my Sprite and chips I went to Cora and we danced to the Bob the Builder song. I fell down but we kept dancing until I got tired.

On Friday evening I went to the disco with my sister and dad and I had one whole pizza and my sister only had four slices!
